Threat comes in many forms. The most threatening of all perhaps, is fire. Both to your
premises, but more importantly to your staff and visitors. Not to mention to the survival of the business itself.
There are statistics scattered all across the internet. You may have seen them:
- 44 percent of enterprises fail to reopen and 33 percent of these failed to survive beyond 3 years.
- 30% of all businesses that have a major fire go out of business within a year. 70% fail within five years.
Chubb.com used to state on its website that, “Over 70% of businesses involved in a major fire either do not reopen, or subsequently fail within 3 years of fire.”
The truth is… nobody really knows. None of the stats are properly referenced (if you can find genuine figures do please pass then on, we’d be very grateful). Most likely it’s business continuity consultancies or other fire security companies trying to make a point. And as unscientific as the figures are, they do have one.
The threat of fire needs to be taken very seriously indeed. It’s one of businesses big responsibilities, financially, legally and morally.
